Four wins away from glory Here we are. The final stretch. Four wins away from glory.
After the Boston College men’s hockey team wrapped up their huge Hockey East Championship win over #2 BU on Saturday night, another game across the country was wrapping up. In the NCHC, #3 Denver rode a late surge to defeat the Omaha Mavericks in their conference championship game, which had the cascading effect of vaulting UMass into the NCAA tournament and leaving out Colorado College. The full bracket was worked out from there and released on Sunday evening:
The 2024 NCAA hockey tournament bracket will see Boston College play Michigan Tech, the CCHA champion, on Friday afternoon in Providence and then, if they advance, the winner of Wisconsin/Quinnipiac. BC earned the #1 seed and it is paying dividends now, because this is about as easy of a path as you can get to the Frozen Four. MTU is ranked just 32nd nationally Collapse

What a season for Fowler! On Thursday afternoon, the three finalists for the Mike Richter Award were announced, and Boston College goalie Jacob Fowler was among the finalists, alongside Wisconsin’s Kyle McClellan and Colorado College’s Kaidan Mbereko. The Richter Award is given annually to college hockey’s best goaltender.
Fowler has had an incredible freshman season, finishing the regular season statistically in the top-10 for Goals Against Average and Save Percentage, all while backstopping the far-and-away best team in the nation. He has kept teams like #2 Boston University, #5 Michigan State, #7 Maine, #8 Quinnipiac, and many others in check, leading Boston College to the top seed in the 2024 NCAA Tournament and giving the Eagles a real shot at contending for their first national championship since 2012. Boston College fell 77-70 to UNLV in the NIT Second Round, ending Earl Grant’s third season.
Mason Madsen canned a three to draw first blood, but both offenses were clicking early. Post took a dribble-drive to the rack for an easy deuce, using his height advantage, but UNLV found points easy to come by – attacking McGlockton in the paint and connecting from distance. A lot of tough shots fell early for the Rebels, spotting them an early two-possession lead. Jaeden Zackery, however, looked energetic. He freed up for a nice midrange jumper and then cut to the rack for an easy deuce, fueling BC’s offense and keeping them within five. Post, on the other hand, looked shaky with a couple missed 3s and a bad turnover (which led to a wide-open UNLV triple). Nevertheless, BC’s offense naturally seemed to match up well with the Rebels. Post lingered on the perimeter, freeing up the paint for cutters and making UNLV’s perimeter defenders work extremely Collapse

Smith has completely lived up to the hype surrounding him after he was taken 4th overall in the 2023 NHL Draft, the highest-ever selection for a Boston College player. His offense has been instrumental to BC’s huge season at the top of the nation.

On Tuesday evening, the Boston College Eagles men’s basketball team participated in their first postseason game since 2018 when they faced off against the Providence Friars in the first round of the 2024 NIT. BC felt that their season ended prematurely after they gave up a lead to Virginia in the ACC Tournament and eventually fell to the Cavaliers in overtime, ending an impressive run that could’ve rivaled the one made by NC State, who eventually won the ACC Championship. They rectified that loss by defeating PC, 62-57, even though the Friars were missing their best player.
The game started out fairly slow on offense for both teams, as they started to adjust to the NIT’s wider lanes and immediately got physical on defense. PC was missing Devin Carter, their best player and the recipient of the 2023-24 Big East Player of the Year award, so it’s understandable that the Friars struggled to score at times. Eagles hold on for a late win in Hockey East Quarterfinals The Boston College men’s hockey team knocked off UConn 5-4 in the quarterfinals of the Hockey East tournament, avoiding a third period collapse to advance to the semifinals. The Eagles got goals from four different players and looked on the way to a comfortable win after two periods, but needed a late goal from Jack Malone to come away with the result they wanted.
The Eagles jumped out to a lead just over two minutes into the game on a goal from Jacob Bengtsson. BC’s third line put together a great shift of forechecking and won some battles down low before Bengtsson took a shot from the point that found its way through for his third goal of the season. Jack Malone doubled the lead just a few shifts later, scoring his first goal in over a month to make it a 2-0 lead.
